HI-TIDE with USB ICD2
      #58832 - Wed May 28 2008 11:27 AM

Hi,

I am trying to use my USB Microchip ICD2 with HI-TIDE. My System is Ubuntu Hardy 8.04, with picc-lite 9.60PL2

Is it possible to use the USB connection to the ICD2 somehow? My laptop does not have a serial port!

Many thanks

Simon

--- EDIT

What about USB/Serial converters or PCMCIA cards? My USB converter gets assigned to /dev/ttyUSB0 but this option doesn't appear in HI-TIDE.

USB to serial adaptors should work. But those devices should also produce a 'fake' serial device in the OS. Do you have the required drivers/modules installed/configured?

Hello Ryan,

Thanks for the Reply.

The serial USB converter seems to mount as ttyUSB0, not an option available within HI-TIDE:
Code:

simon@simon-linux:~$ dmesg | grep tty
[ 16.924284] console [tty0] enabled
[ 18.809950] serial8250: ttyS1 at I/O 0x2f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A
[ 49.247575] audit(1212042438.367:2): type=1503 operation="inode_permission" requested_mask="a::" denied_mask="a::" name="/dev/tty" pid=5165 profile="/usr/sbin/cupsd" namespace="default"
[ 153.557588] usb 4-2.2: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0
[ 886.602525] pl2303 ttyUSB0: pl2303 converter now disconnected from ttyUSB0
[ 890.473308] usb 4-2.2: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0

Is there a workaround?

Many thanks

Simon

Sorry, I should have noticed the ttyUSB0 in your original message, it's been a long week.

Anyway, try just typing "/dev/ttyUSB0" into the combo... it should be editable for this reason (we had many different adaptors with all sorts of device names).
